Cowee Sunstar

This spot on the parkway is a short hike away from the main Cowee Overlook, but I like the way the mountains fold over onto themselves and provide a central focal point even more than the actual overlook.  This area offers beautiful sunsets because it faces the southwest.  On this particular evening, late afternoon storms had blanketed the high peaks of the Blue Ridge in clouds and lightning and fog, but as the sun set, there was a small gap for the sun to poke through at the last minute and grant me a spectacular sunset with a sunstar to top it off.
